Theme blog

In the book "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry" meaningful changes happen over time and takes sacrifice because that is what the whole books theme is. For example, Uncle Hammer was overcoming the fact his skin color is different and not letting that bring him down. Uncle Hammer made the made the most about being a free slave. He has a job, a car and a loving family to keep him on his feet. Although this is a meaningful change it did happen slowly. Uncle Hammer could really care less what about what people think about it.

"Big Ma stammered, "Hammer, you–you went and got a car like Harlan Granger's?" Uncle Hammer smiled a strange, wry smile. "Well, not exactly like it, Mamma. Mine's a few months newer..." This is a little evidence that meaningful changes happen over time and takes sacrifice because even "Big Ma" was surprised with the car that he had because it took a lot of time. Although, that is not the message. The car symbolizes Uncle Hammer and his success. The success took a lot of hard work and time to do what he wanted to do. That is to help out his family and try to be there for them like they were for him.

This books theme really reaches out to me in my opinion. It does because I have been going through a lot of change throughout my life. It has been meaningful too along the way. I feel like I can really relate to the book. This is the main reason why I chose it for the theme blog. I can continuosly talk about this theme on and on.

Quarter 1 Reflection Blog

We have reached the end of 1st Quarter...can you believe it?! Now take a moment to reflect on what you have learned so far. Some questions to consider:

Where are you in your 40 Book Challenge? How have your blogs been progressing since August? What strategies have benefited you? What have you learned about the world? How have your research skills improved?

Make sure to include a topic sentence and supporting details that fully support your main idea.

This school year has been moving quite fast, I barely found out that the quarter is close to an end. I'm really proud of what I've accomplished throughout this quarter. For example, In my 40 book challenge I think I am doing pretty well overall. I've read 5 books already which is decently good in my eyes because I'm someone who doesn't read too often. I have stood in fiction genres for quite some time now but I am gradually reading non-fiction genres like, A Child Called "It" and Of Beetles and Angels. These really make me inspired to read more non-fiction books about peoples lives, or just an auto-biography or a biography.

In my blogs I believe that I've shown improvement. I say this because I am actually revising as I read and have found a liking to it. Not only does it really help me academically but it helps me to understand my errors and learn from them. If I ddn't learn from my mistakes I wouldn't be as affective as a writer. The writting I would be conveying wouldn't have sense to it or have reason. I'm proud of what I've accomplished in this section especially, the writing portion. Without revising I wouldn't be able to hand in great quality work and have a big impact in my life. I'm going to sum this up by saying I believe that revising is a helpful tool in writing and It'll help in the long run.

From the beginning of the school year up till now I have learned so much about current events and things happening around the world. I never would've known about any of this if it wasn't for this class. I mean I could know about but I wouldn't be able to interpret the current event or say anything about. I like that we have to research about it and learn as much as we can about. This has improved my reseaching skills in a large portion. I now know that skimming isn't such a great technique. Every single detail matters in an article and if you miss one part you can be lost in the article. I hope from here on out now that my researching skills are more effective I can now be able to incorporate the information I discover into a great AOW.

Weekly Blog 10-14-15: A Child Called "It"

Contrast
When contrasting things, look closely to find all thing that are different between
them.
• How does what you are reading contrast with a novel you were assigned to read
in school and didn’t like reading.
• Contrast the theme of what you are reading with something you read last
month.
• What would be a good contrast to the setting of what you are reading?

A Child called "It" is a great book which I overall was one of the best books I've read. When I contrast it to a book I didn't enjoy reading like Touching Spirit Bear. I don't really like the content of that book. When I contrast it with A Child Called "It" I look at the genres which is a huge difference. For instance, A Child Called "It" is a memoir. Then in Touching Spirit Bear the book is fiction. These are two seperetate and different genres. One is real (based on a true story) then the other is fake (not real). A child called "It" also has a purpose in the writing it send out a message and shows how a nobody becomes a somebody and overcomes the abuse.

The theme isn't significantly different in a child called it in contrast to a Of Beetles and Angels. However, the contrast is there because they are not exactly the same. For instance, the theme of A Child Called "It" was a kid who got abused. Then for a Of Beetles and Angels the theme is that it is rough now but it'll all get better type of theme. Both of these books I really enjoyed. For different reasons of course. I really liked A Child Called "It" because of the theme because it made me feel really sad and like I was there in the book. Then for Of Beetles and Angels I liked everything about it the story line, the conflict and the way it is written. Whcih are two different themes to it.

What would be a good contrast for this book would probably be some kind of fantasy world in another book like basically anything fiction. This book takes place in the US. Not really anything would apply but anything tat doesn't have school, homes and so on and so forth. Lets say that there is a place withourt schools and other places in the US. like third world countries. In A Child Called "It" it is a memoir which is a true story and is a actual place in the real world which makes a harder to contrast. However, you can make some minor differences in it towards another setting.

It'll be worth it, I promise

Right now,
we are among the
poorest
in the land

Todays
small act of
kindness
can become
tomorrows whirlwind of
human progress

Who knows what your
future may
bring

Listen to me
my children
It is painful for you now
but believe me,
the day will come when you
will thank me.

We need to
let the outside air
beat on us

You are ready to change
the world
thank you
good luck
and
congratulations

Refugee Blog

Mawi is a very strong and determined person who never gave up and continued to strive on. Mawi would never stop trying to be successful because his family made a lot of sacrifices for him and the least he can do is make something out of that. Now onto another brave soul. Adil Mustafa Hamdan he is very similar to Mawi. For instance they both grew up as refugees and have the lived the entire srtruggle. They both had a struggle between their fathers because adils father had died on a journey and he never saw him again. Mawi had lost his dad too but his dad walked out on him. The thing is that Mawis dad did it for him and the family. For these two men they both chose family over anything and then water after which I respect al lot from both of them.

Mawi and Adil have gone very similar rough events and have had similar ideas. For example, Mawis and adil both wanted to find out a way to be peaceful with everyone . Not to e discriminated by them or not cared for. It must really hurt to be not wanted because of the way you look. I mean they never asked to look they way they do, be judged the way they are or live they way they live. This was brought onto them when they were little they didn't get chose their faith they created it for themselves and now look at Mawi he went to Harvard and well-known around the world. For adil on the other hand didn't get to fulfill coming to America to live the "American Dream" but he was able to keep his life like Mawi which were both gifts to them and these are huge event sin their lives.

War effects individuals and societies in different ways but the main way is negatively. When people go to war they are happy for fighting for whats right. What if they aren't fighting for what's right they are just doing a mindless war because of hatrid and because they can. They don't even care to notice all the innocent people having to leave where they are from, their home country just because people actions it is so messed up. It really messes up the society and anyone who is in the area when the war is happening. It is just so unfair I believe that there are many other ways to settle things and violence and ignorance isn't one of them. Which leads me to say war effects everyone and anything in its own specific ways.

                                 The City of Ember
                                     By: Jeanne DuPrau

This novel "The City of Ember" is different from a book that I didn't like and was assigned to me from school because it is based off of something that could really happen. I'm not saying that this book is realistic fiction but it is a certain possibility. Another reason why this book is different from a book I didn't like from school is because we don't necessarily pick what kind of topic and book  we want to read. For instance, we are assigned a book called "Touching Spirit Bear" which is a book I really enjoyed. After that I was given a larger variety of books and chose "The City of Ember" which was a book I was interested in. That is the big difference. We aren't able to view the book before it's assigned so we go into a book without having an idea what is happening.

The theme of this book is more of a crisis and last resort, but in the other book i read last month was about love and hate and new beginnings. What the name of that book was "Of Mice and Men". Those are two completely different themes of books which is what I like to do. I enjoy going from one topic to another instead of staying along the lines of one topic with another. Although I really loved the book "Of Mice and Men" it is a major difference in theme. I also read a book called "I Even Funnier" which had the theme of funny. In the book I'm reading that is extremely different because the book is pretty serious and interesting. These are entirely different books that'll never fit in the same column.

A good contrast of the setting that we are reading is Berwyn. Ember is an entirely different location and the way it is much more different than Berwyn. For example, in Berwyn we all go to school until we are 23-24 and in Ember it is when they are 12. In Berwyn we have a lot of food and markets everywhere. In Ember there is barely any food and not many places to get them from. One of the key things that Berwyn has that Ember doesn't is light and power. Ember doesn't have any of that. In "The city of Ember they have a broken generator that if they don't fix in time they will have a full city black out. That is what they have many of there workers doing is trying to save and conserve the "The City of Ember".

                                   The City of Ember
                                                           By: Jeanne DuPrau

Define

When defining something, look at it carefully and identify the qualities that make it

meaningful.

Define what makes an interesting story or poem.
Define what is needed to make a good setting.
• Define what is needed for a reader to be able to relate to a character?

What makes an interesting story or poem is a great plot. I say the plot makes a story or poem interesting because without the plot there wouldn't be a great ending or resolution. Also dialogue is always interesting because that is where you get all the great imagery from characters. The dialogue is what keeps me interested. Although, that is nothing more than a opinion people might halve the same feelings towards what makes a story or poem interesting. Another thing that makes a poem or story interesting is the title or then cover. I say the title because that is what mainly draws people in when they see nothing other than that. The cover on the other hand, brings everyone in. Without a cover or title people might not be interested on reading the story or poem.

What is needed to make a good setting is mainly the way either the narrator or the characters explain it. The ways characters explains the book is always the best way because you get the imagery from it and feel like you are there. I guess the narrator could explain it but it isn't really the same when the characters explain it. It is all about the perspective that makes a good setting but, that is my opinion. What also makes a really good setting is some kind of plot to it. If there is no plot to a setting it isn't really intriguing whatsoever. Those are the main things that make a good setting interesting.

What is needed for a reader to be able to relate to a character is relatable traits. I know that is rather obvious to be able to relate to a character but that is what is needed. For example if a character plays sports, has a hobby, or where the character is located. All of these option are relatable to many people already but it is not specific enough. What is needed is to narrow down the options so the character can reach out to a certain audience. Now to keep all of the traits the same but to be more specific. The character now plays baseball, collects baseball cards and lives is in Boston, Massachusetts. Now people can relate to the character and it reaches out to only a certain variety of the readers.

                        The Time Machine
                                             By: H. G. Wells

Writing Prompt:
• Explain what kind of reader would like this book most.
• Explain why somebody should or should not read this?
• How would you explain the plot of this story to somebody interested in reading
it?

What kind of reader that will enjoy this book the most would probably be a patient reader. I say this because in the beginning of what I've read it didn't become that interesting. Although, this book requires people to think which many people might enjoy, I enjoy that myself. For instance in the book it has many things I didn't even know what they were talking about. Therefore, I looked everything up I had questions about and it all made sense on how the time machine might work. If you are into those kind of requirements to understand this book than this book is a great selection for those readers.

The reason why people should read this book is because how intriguing this book is. For instance this isn't really likely to actually happen. I don't think we will actually have to fight off a whole bunch of creatures who live underground to get our time machine but that is why it is interesting. If they didn't end up loosing their time machine there wouldn't be a plot in this book. That is why it is interesting because of the whole plot of them losing the time machine and and having to take it back from evil creatures from the future.

I think the plot is clever but also predictable in a novel like this. Usually in books that are in the future or taken back in time the characters ended up losing something important and end up taking it back. However, if it wasn't for the plot I may not have enjoyed this book as much as I did. I am into unique plots but kind of original to keep the value of reading involved. Anyways, that is basically the plot. A bunch of evil creatures that live underground are surrounding the time machine. Then the characters in the book have to get it back to get back to their regular time period.

                        The Time Machine
                                             By: H. G. Wells

Writing Prompt:
• Evaluate whether the title fits the story.
• Evaluate the quality of the writing.
• Evaluate whether the main character would be worthy of your friendship.

The title of the book does fit the story because the title is " The Time Machine" and that is basically what the whole book is about. In my opinion that is the best title for this book because that can draw the readers towards the book. That is kind of what happened to me but I also read the back cover. Even though this book is mainly about the time machine it is also about the characters in the book and that doesn't necessarily fit the title. I feel like they could've made a more original idea then something so simple as " The Time Machine". They should change the title but that is nothing other than my opinion. Anyways it is a okay title for a great book. The title shouldn't even matter though never judge a book by it's cover.

The quality of the writing is great. It uses a lot of substitution words which I enjoy. Instead of saying a full sentence it uses one word to explain it all. That is a terrific quality in my eyes. Also a good quality in the writing is that it doesn't rush to the point. All of the writing builds up to the plot of the book which keeps the readers interest alive. If that wasn't included I don't think I would've wanted to continue my reading. I enjoy the suspense of a book. That is another terrific quality that is included in the book.

The main character of this book would be worthy of my friendship because he has the qualities I like in a friend. The qualities that he has is that he is smart, clever, an inventor and wants to see what the future is like. I am into all of those qualities he has. For example I love to create things and I always wanted to see when technology advances or if it crashes in the future. I say the smart and cleverness from The Time Traveler are a good quality also so you can trust them and be able to help you with a homework assignment you don't understand. The Time Traveler is worthy of my friendship but the real question is if I'm worthy of his friendship.

OMAM Conflict Blog

Conflict Blog

The conflict that I want to look closer to is the relationship between Lennie and Curley. Curley already hates Lennie because of his size and his intelligence. The reason Lennie doesn't like Curley is because the way he treats people and because he is mean. There is a lot of tension between them two and it can get Lennie in trouble. All of the pressure is on Lennie because if he were to do something to Curley he can get fired. Another way Lennie can get in trouble is because Curley would want to get revenge on him because of the fight when he broke his hand. Curley does need to look out too because people underestimate him and think he is a weak link. The thing is Lennie can seriously hurt someone and you shouldn't mess around with him.

The second conflict is between George and Curley. They end up having beef between each other and not like each other. They never agree on anything and Curley just wants Lennie and George to leave. Curley feels like he might lose his power over the other people and they'll like George and Lennie more. The main reason George doesn't like Curley is because he hates Lennie and is always talking bad about him. They both really need to cool it because the more beef they have the more tension the Bunkhouse will have. All of the pressure is on George of course because if he does something wrong he'll risk getting fired but, if Curley does something nothing would happen because his dad is the Boss.

The last conflict is about George feels guilt on not helping Lennie and always telling him what to do. He is starting to regret yelling at Lennie when it is unnecessary. George just feels like he needs t yell at him so Lennie will never do it again. Another reason he feels guilt is because he made Lennie hurt Curley when he really didn't want to and he feels like it's his fault when it isn't. He is just doing it out of love because he doesn't want anything bad to happen to Lennie. George feels like he is his responsibility because Lennie doesn't have anyone else to help him out in life. I don't think George should feel guilt he is doing it just to keep Lennie safe.

Paradox and Dream

"Americans are remarkably kind and hospitable and open with both guests and strangers; and yet they will make a wide circle around the man dying on the pavement. Fortunes are spent getting cats out of trees and dogs out of sewer pipes; but a girl screaming for help in the street draws only slammed doors, closed windows, and silence. What this paradox means is that we care more about the smaller things more the things that actually matter. The use the examples to show what is mainly true we would do anything to save an animal but barely try to save a human being in need. This is overall an opinion but it seems like it does happens.

I connected to this because I notice this all the time. We always make a huge deal over some animal and when someone dies it isn't as big of a deal. It is just terrible in my opinion, like what  they said in the story that "Fortunes are spent getting cats out of trees and dogs out of sewer pipes; but a girl screaming for help in the street draws only slammed doors, closed windows, and silence." We sometimes think of the least important things and care about them. Something can be happening to a a little girl and they hear her scream and they just look, these are terrible bystanders. This is like what we always talk about at school when we learn about bullying don't be a bystander.

"We fancy ourselves as hardheaded realists, but we will buy anything we see advertised, particularly on television; and we buy it not with reference to the quality or the value of the product, but directly as a result of the number of times we have heard it mentioned." What this paradox means is that we always buy items that we don't need. All of the items that we regularly buy are nearly all luxury items. We are easily persuaded by products that we see advertised and purchase it and we end up not enjoying it.

I connected to that paradox especially because I've done it before. I saw something that was advertised and they made it seem amazing, then it was terrible and I didn't even use it. Overall we make bad decisions and mistakes but everyone does and that connects to me also. Without mistakes such as the ones in the paradox we wouldn't be humans everyone has made mistakes in their lives and especially me. I always do things that I knew wasn't right or didn't think through the consequences but it's because I'm human.

Final Reflection Blog

                 End of the Year Reflection

The most important things I've learned this year was how to properly right a paragraph, how to make sure I have no errors in my writing and all the different kinds of poetry there is. How to right a paragraph now is what I will for sure remember for the rest of my life it is one of the most important thing in my opinion. It's important because without knowing this I would not be prepared for my future years in school. It is a great life skill that is really good to know. Also what Mrs. Larson taught me was how to proof read my own work. I use to just write something and not read over it thoroughly but, she gave me a knew perspective on it and showed me how important it is.

The nicest thing that someone did for me in class was guide me throughout the class because I was a new kid in the class when I came. The person who helped me out was Devin he basically explained the whole class to me and the way it works. I really remember that day too, I was so shy to be in a new class but with Devin's' help he changed my thoughts on the class. I actually taught some people things coming into this class. What I taught someone was that if you are using a picture and it isn't coming out clear you have to drag it to your desktop and then insert it to your work. This helped them a lot because none of the picture looked as well as iit was suppose to.

Where I really made improvements in was test taking. I was terrible at tests and I never really did to well on them because i never knew how to properly study. However, once I came here I have never got a lower grade than a B, except for one time because I didn't study but I retook it and got an A. It is all thanks to Quizlet because the studying methods that it uses helps me out a lot and is a fun way to do it. Therefore, I use it all the time for every test I take and I do a lot better and my confidence is increasing. I am proud to be in this class because I wasn't in it for the first two quarters but for the last two. It isn't to come into this class and stay above a B in it. I shrived through it and started to feel comfortable. That was the biggest challenge too to keep up with all of these amazing kids and their talents. I am not the brightest but I still try my best and I believe if I keep on believing I will succeed. I overcame that challenge and it feels like I made it.

The best piece of writing that I did was the "Nonsense Poem" because I could really take out my humor and put it into a poem. I also was able to make up words in the poem which was amazing because I always make up words and it basically fit my style of writing. My goofy yet effective type of writing. My personal favorite thing we did while reading this year was reading "Of Mice and Men" it is the best book that I've read ever. It is my favorite because the whole book is left in suspense and the book really requires you to think. I'm not going to spoil anything but the ending is the craziest ending ever I honestly didn't expect that.

My advice to the kids who come into Mrs. Larson's class is good luck. It is one of the toughest class I've ever took and to have two classes with her! I mean but, you've already made it this far into her class so why not "Just keep swimming." The class isn't as bad as I just explained it is as good as you make it because if you make it a bad time then that's on you, but if you make it a great time it'll eventually be your favorite class. After a lot of people told me it is really hard and it is difficult to get an A in her class, I just ignored them because that is only their opinion. The first month in her class was rough because I was still being taught the way her class works and other things like that but after that it was all uphill from there. Three key things you need to follow in her class is always be prepared. What I mean is have your homework done at all times and study for all tests. The last and final thing to do is HAVE FUN! The class is only as fun as you make it. My final advice for you is GOOD LUCK! :)

What Symbolizes me

                  A Basketball

What Item symbolizes me is a basketball, not only do I like to play it but I also relate to it. A basketball symbolizes me because I love to bring joy to others, play around and be there for someone. A basketball brings joy to others because when people play it with it they have a very enjoyable time with it. A basketball also is there for anyone in need of it. If you are bored or not in the mood for anything you can pick it up and have a great time. This relates to me because I have those similar qualities all day everyday. This the only object that I have special connection too as weird as it sounds. This why a basketball symbolizes me.

I commented on these blogs: Jared's , John's, Devin's, Omar's and Sam's

Of Mice and Men: The Movie

Analyze the ending of the book versus the ending of the movie

What are your general thoughts, feelings, reactions of Of Mice and Men? What had the most profound impact on you or your understanding of the novella? Who would you recommend this book to and why?

What the flashback shows in the movie is that even though George shot Lennie he still did it out of love. That shows the whole mood of the movie and to let us know that George did the right choice. Also to remember how much he truly loved Lennie as much as he treated him badly he did it to keep Lennie safe. The way that this flashback changes the mood for the is really smart. They added that part to basically say we may have killed Lennie but we did it to make sure he didn't suffer.

At the end of the book the feeling or mood was set in suspense and sadness. I say sadness because Lennie ends up dying and no one really care about it. Then I say suspense because it ends at a point that a new book might be able to start. The director chose that to end the movie to show some sort of twist in the audiences mind. If you end it the same way they wouldn't be able to see the different sides of how the characters reacted to Lennie's death. This makes the audience even more emotional if they read the book because they wouldn't actually be expected the ending of how lonely George was going to be and how other characters felt. The director did a great job also by allowing George and Lennie to have alone time at the whole end of the movie to express their true friendship.

The line at the end of the book is "'Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them to guys?'" What this line tells us about the speaker is that he is trying to make a different mood and make it seem like no one cared that Lennie died except for George deep down. Also it leaves us in confusion and awe because we didn't know as an audience what the ending meant. That is why they made the movie to basically explain to us what the ending meant to us and it left us in sadness and happiness.

I really enjoyed this book overall and loved how it was set up. I really wasn't all that excited to read this book because I knew nothing about it at all and I never read a novella before. I was surprised with the outcome of my reading and how much enjoyment I had when it was over. I really got into this book and wanted to keep on reading. I would definitely recommend this book to other people with similar interests towards this book. The thing is in order for them to enjoy the book in my opinion is if you don't tell them anything about it and explain things. If you explain things to them they wouldn't want to keep reading to find out. What had the most profound impact on me was the love hate relationship between Lennie and George. It makes me connect a lot to this world and to myself. I say it connects to myself because that is how I am with my brother after all we've put each other through we still love each other. Then I say this connects to the world because almost everyone has this kind of relationship with someone.

AOW Impressions Blog

Topics: Baltimore Mother, Nepal Earthquake

Jeremiah had an article about the Baltimore riot but it wasn't just about the riot it was about a caring mother. It was about her son  being involved in the riot. Once she had found out he was involved she went to go look for him and punish him and tell him how stupid it is to be involved in that. What I got from this is that we need a lot more people just like her who actually care about their kids. It is terrible to see parents who don't care if they are involved with trouble. Some people don't care about their kids but she did and she made a big impact all by herself. Not many people can say that.

Sam had an article about the Nepal earthquake. He told me about how dreadful it was and how many casualties that happened. At the time he told me that there were 5,800 confirmed casualties but, that was on April 30. It was confirmed on May 5 that there are 7,500+ casualties. It a terrible all around event. We need to better prepare for these type of natural disasters. Also we need to help each other out even that this earthquake happened far away from us we are still finding ways to help them out and help them because it is not only the right thing but, if this happened to us I am almost positive they'll do the same for us.

These AOW's that we read helped us to be better people and know what is going on all around the world. Without all of these blogs we wouldn't be able to know or understand our current events. If we don't learn about this we won't be able to contribute towards anyone or anything such as, Nepal.

Weekly Blog "Dreams"

                                Dreams and Goals

Based on your brainstorming via Edmodo, write a short poem elaborating on your dream and/or why dreams or visions are an important part of life.

Always have at least one goal or dream
It is not as hard as it seems.
You must always strive to achieve something big,
It can be about basically anything even a pig.

Without a goal or a dream we wouldn't try our best,
If you do succed your goal or dream you should feel blessed.
Anything is possible with confidence and hard work.
Once you know you're hard work is paying off make a big smirk.

It is reallly big  complete a goal or reach a dream,
with other people as a team.
Don't ever let anyone stop you from reaching your goals,
Some people think of that as their roles.
Just keeping dreaming.
And that very dream may becime a reality.

Of Mice and Men (OMAM)

                Of Mice and Men

Describe the atmosphere of the ranch and bunkhouse. Be sure to include characteristics of different characters that were formally or informally introduced to us in this chapter. Support your choice with textual evidence and interpretation.

Why doesn't Curley's wife have a name?   What message, if anything, is John Steinbeck  trying to send by not giving her a first name?
Support your choice with textual evidence and interpretation.

The atmosphere of the ranch and the Bunkhouse is welcoming but tense. I said welcoming because ever since George and Lennie got their they were welcomed really well. For Instance, Slim is a good friend to both of them and that is because they probably made a good first impression. I say that because Curley made a bad impression on George and Lennie, so now George say he hates his guts and doesn't like him. Then I sad tense because their is always people yelling and those people are George and Curley. They argue back and forth because they both have temper issues, you know what happens when you mix those kind of people, conflict. However it seems to me that Curley is beginning to like George but George hates him. "Ya know, Lennie, I'm scared I'm gonna tangle with that bastard myself. I hate his guts. Jesus Christ." That was just showing how much he truly hates Curley.

I think Curley's wife does't have a name because she never actually said what her name was. What I mean by this is that all the characters were introduced with their names or nicknames, she wasn't. That happened because she was never introduced properly or no one knows her real name. Their can be many different possibilities but, these make the most sense to me.

The message John Steinbeck was trying to give by not give Curley's wife a name was because of how women were treated back then. They didn't have they didn't have Women's Suffrage yet and it was difficult for women to actually be treated as an equal. In the book they call her terrible things like "Tramp.." and don't really care about her. The thing is Lennie really likes her and Curley hates Lennie because he is big and much stronger than him.

A Dog's Life By: Ann M. Martin

In this story "A Dogs Life" the title goes perfectly with the story line. I say this because this book is basically about a dogs life.  However, to get in more detail this book is about how hard it is being a stray. For instance, in this book Squirrel (Main character) losses so many people along the way. People such as her mom, brother and dearest friend, even if dogs may not seem like they feel the same like us but they do Squirrel went through traumatizing life experiences.  Seeing her best friend get hit by a car, seeing her brother taken by humans and being thrown out of a car unwanted. As I was reading the title I knew what it would be about what it said but, that isn't the point because the author followed the title perfectly and overall did terrific.

The quality of the writing was really good but it could've been better. It is nothing against Ann Martin it is just that I feel like she could've explained better. However, it wasn't just the story she should've added a introduction of why she is writing it from a dogs perspective. I understood why but, what if other people didn't. She explained it well throughout the story but some people might not understand. However, this is only my opinion people might've think she did amazing or even terrible but she is in the middle for me.

Is Squirrel worthy of my friendship? Heck yeah she is I don't know if I am worthy of her friendship. Even if she is just a dog she has an amazing personality and is a loyal companion. I am kind of wishing that squirrel was a person and I could meet her and ask so many questions and hopefully become friends with her. Even though she lost many people along her long & suspenseful journey she never did just forget about the others, she kept on thinking about them and tried to look for them. Though she didn't succeed she at least put in all the effort she could as a dog. To be honest this is one of the best friends I would want to find someday that is how much I enjoy her character.

Poetry Reflecion

Poetry really does have an important place in my life without poetry in my life I don't think I would be as creative as I am today. I actually really try whenever I am creating a poem to add a lot of creativity and make sure it is unique. Also it helps me to express my feelings and get things off of my mind. I don't really think poetry has a importance in everyone life though. It really depends on the person and if they like poetry. There is a lot of people who don't enjoy certain things that other people like, for instance like poetry. Some reasons people might like poetry because it is hard for them to express their true emotion about things or even they can be shy. Another reason is that they could just not like it at all. I know this because I didn't like poetry but once I created one that I was proud of it felt amazing.

The life experiences of a poet affects their writing because that could be a topic they're writing about. Also it affects their writing because they would be able to explain their poetry better and have descriptive words and make you feel what happened to them. They can also help to relate because a lot of people have been through the same thing. That is the power of poetry it really speaks to you and reaches out to you and it is just like you are in a different world. However, that is just my opinion people may have other opinions on poetry but they can't even say why they dislike it.

"Dallas" Found Poem

Kiss me while you're at it,
Dallas moved over on me.
At that moment they both became aware
the sound,
the hard tap,
the voice slow, deliberately.
Then they stopped,
silence I need you out here.
Moments, shaded the morning light.
Quietly take her out, before the day turns
BLACK

This poem is about a man named Dallas and he is a known as a "Craiglist killer". He goes on dates with people and acts nice but then he kills them. He has found a liking in this so called "Hobby" so, he continues to do it. Therefore, this poem speaks about his next victim and how he "Takes her out"

"Spine Poem"

What this poem is about is there is a group a girls who hated dogs. The Girls decided to get rid of all dogs and their purpose. They didn't like dogs because they got more attention than them. Therefore, The Girls chose to take away the population of dogs so they can get the attention they need/desire. However, the meaning of this poem goes along the lines of being an older sibling. The "dogs" represent the younger sibling and "The Girls" srepresent the older sibling. For instance, it is natural for a older brother or sister to get jealous of the youngest because they get whatever they want and do as they please. I actually am the same way with my little brother I envy sometimes for things he gets and stuff but I had it the same way when I was little.
